System Specification
User Interface and Features
The DS215j is powered by the same familiar DSM we know from other Synology devices, now in the latest version 5.1. A great and easy to use operating system that should have a function and feature for almost anything you can think of.
Synology has almost all basic aspects covered with Add-on packages ranging from automated download services to email server and surveillance station.
Power Consumption
The chart below will show the power usage under different scenarios. The maximum draw will usually occur during boot-up, usage is during normal access and idle is when system is left alone. Lately, I’ve also been asked more about power figures of the just the PSU bricks. To answer this question I’ve also tested and added an item for this without it being connected to the NAS.
The Synology DS215j isn’t just a budget device when buying it, it barely uses any power while running either. It peaks at 25.1 watts during boot-up and operates around 18.2 watts. Once the HDDs enters the hibernation mode it will only use around 5.3 watts.
