Synology DS414j 4-Bay NAS Review
2x HD Video Playback
2x HD Video Playback works with exactly the same data set as the first HD Video test, however this time the same content is streamed twice from the NAS box simulating two simultaneous streams being made to external media players.
While this is a nice review and very thorough, the bays on the DS414j are NOT hot-swappable. The DS414 has hot-swappable drives. http://www.synology.com/en-us/products/compare_products/DS414j/DS414
Nice review, but there’s a few errors.
1. The Realtek RTL8211E is only a PHY for the NIC built in to the Comcerto.
2. As Mike said, the drives are not hot-swappable.
3. The Marvell SATA controller may well support RAID, but Synology use mdraid, so it’s plain old Linux RAID. The Marvell is just there because the Comcerto only has two SATA controllers built in.
4. The SATA riser board is not PCI-E. It just happens to use a PCI-E connector, probably because they’re cheap and reliable.
i want to know how to upgrade RAM in DS414j…?? is it possible?? or how to improve its performance??
The RAM is soldered chips on the motherboard, so no way to upgrade that. It’s quite an old device by now, so probably not a whole lot you can do to improve its performance. It may be the time to upgrade it to something newer if it can’t do what you need it to do anymore.
