Synology introduce the DiskStation DS112j NAS Server

Synology Inc. today launched DiskStation DS112j, the most economical, power-saying and quiet 1-bay NAS server designed to serve as users’ private cloud and multimedia center.

“Synology DS112j comes at an entry-level price point, but makes no compromise in the richness of features offered by Synology,” said Darren Lin, a product manager of Synology Inc. “It is a gateway to Synology’s unique cloud services and applications, making it easy for users to keep their data in sync across all their PC, mobile devices and DS112j, and carry terabytes of multimedia files anywhere,” Lin added.

With a brand-new enclosure design, the DS112j is quieter and cooler. Its low-rotation 60 mm fan and ventilation openings facilitate heat dispassion and minimize its noise level to 17.1 dB(A), quieter even than a library. The DS112j features a new mechanical design to place the hard drive optimally, creating a smooth path for air to flow to keep the system running cooler.

The DS112j is equipped with a 1.0 GHz CPU, 128 MB RAM, one Gigabit LAN port and two USB 2.0 ports. It is compliant with 4 TB hard disks to accommodate up to 4 TB of storage. As Synology’s most energy-efficient DiskStation ever, the DS112j consumes only 12.1 watts in operation. When the hard drive enters hibernation mode, its power consumption is reduced to even 4.4 watts.

Synology DS112j is powered by DiskStation Manager 4.0 (DSM 4.0), the operating system of every Synology DiskStation and RackStation. DSM 4.0 provides rich features to boost users’ productivity and simplify their tasks, all on a sleek user interface optimized for multitasking. Synology DS110j, the predecessor of the DS112j, has received numerous media accolades, including the “Best Storage Product of 2010″ from Computer Shopper, UK.
