Synology introduces RS818+ and RS818RP+ 1U 4-bay rackmount NAS devices. They come equipped with a quad-core processor, 4x GbE LAN, and optional 10GbE network adapter support. Both models provide a comprehensive solution for centralized data storage and backup. The only difference is that the RP model has a redundant power supply.

“Condensed in a flat 1U rackmount chassis, RS818+/RS818RP+ provides great performance, hardware upgradability, and service reliability,” said Michael Wang, Product Manager at Synology Inc.

The NAS features one of Intel’s Atom C2538 processors. It is a 2.4GHz quad-core processor with AES-NI encryption engine. It is equipped with 2GB DDR3 memory, but it is expandable to 16GB in dual channel setup. There is also a PCIe 2.0 slot which supports an optional 10GbE network card. With such a base, the NAS can exceed 1,099 MB/s throughput. That makes the RS818+ ideal as centralized storage for multi-client data transmissions.

Should the four drive bays be too few, then you can expand with the RX418 unit. With it, you get up to 8 drives for flexible data management and backup. It also supports Synology High Availability which provides a reliable active/passive server cluster. Keep your data and services online at all times.

DiskStation Manager

RS818+ runs on DiskStation Manager, the advanced and intuitive operating system for Synology NAS devices. It offers various applications such as file sharing, data backup, or collaboration tools to enhance work productivity. Certified by VMware, Citrix, Microsoft Hyper-V, and OpenStack Cinder, RS818+ can be seamlessly integrated into a company’s virtualization environment.
