Synology Steps Up The Router Game at Computex 2016

Synology introduced their first-ever router last year called the RT1900ac and that was a router that I was seriously impressed with when I reviewed it later on. This year Synology steps up the game with a new router that builds on everything they learned from the first one as well as improved performance and features.

The new Synology RT2600ac router delivers a solid wireless performance with its 4×4 MU-MIMO support and roughly 2600Mbps total wireless bandwidth. As a 2600ac router, it can deliver up to 800Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and up to 1733Mbps on the 5GHz band simultaneously.

On the inside, it features a 1.7GHZ dual-core CPU and externally it has the more or less default four LAN ports and one WAN port. The four antennas are mounted all around with two on the rear and one on each side.

On top of the network ports, it also features two USB 3.0 ports where one of them is located on the rear next to the WAN port.

The other USB 3.0 port is located on the side next to the physical eject button. This is an absolutely awesome feature and one that I’d really like to see on more headless units. It  allows you to safely eject a connected storage drive without having to enter the user interface and tell it to eject the drive.

While not pictured here, the RT2600ac also features an SD card slot for direct memory card access. This is another feature that sets the Synology routers apart from the mass, besides just being awesome.

Synology also updated the firmware compared to the RT1900ac predecessor. The new Synology Router Management (SRM) 1.1 interface brings network mapping and real-time traffic analyzer among other things.

We don’t know the pricing or availability yet, but we’ll let you all know as soon as we do know and you can also expect a full review of the unit as soon as possible.
