Synology is a global leader when it comes to NAS devices and has just unveiled their latest product, the DiskStation DS3617xs. This particular NAS has 12-bays which can scale up to 36 drives. Additionally, the product delivers high performance at over 2358MB/s reads which make it suitable for heavy usage scenarios. The DiskStation DS3617xs utilises an Intel quad-core Xeon-D processor with a 2.2GHz base frequency and 2.7GHz turbo. On another note, the NAS has a 406,760 IOPS reading when an RAID5 configuration is used alongside a 10GbE Link Aggregation. The product comes with a single PCI-E 3.0 slot to install an high-speed network interface card. Michael Wang, Product Manager at Synology Inc said:
“We’ve seen strong interest and demand from our customers in this business-ready desktop NAS model for its painless deployment and flexible scalability.”
“This time we’ve doubled the default RAM capacity of DS3617xs to 16GB and enable upgradability up to 48GB in total for businesses to utilize.”
If you require more disk bays, it’s possible to connect two DX1215 expansion units which increase the maximum disk support to 36. The NAS also provides seamless storage solutions for virtualization environments including VMWare, Citrix, Hyper-V and OpenStack. As expected, the DiskStation DS3617xs uses the company’s innovative operating system which is intuitive and should enhance productivity.
