Synology is a highly respected manufacturer of Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices and releases a huge number of innovative solutions. Recently, the company launched the FlashStation FS3017, a pioneering product which is capable of 200,000 IOPS in 4K random writing with RDMA technology enabled. As a result, the FlashStation FS3017 is suitable for large-scale data analysis, video post-production, virtualisation and other database applications which require high IOPS and low latency.
On another note, the Synology FlashStation FS3017 features dual Intel Xeon 6-core processors, 64GB DDR4 ECC RDIMM with capacities up to 512GB, dual 10GBase-T ports and optional 10GbE, 25GbE and 40GbE NICs. Not only that, the product is compatible with numerous SATA/SAS SSD brands which allow the end-user to select their favourite storage option.
The company’s Vice President Vic Hsu said:
“With Synology’s new signature feature RAID F1, we unevenly distribute parity bits across all SSDs to prevent RAID crashes,”
“When the oldest SSD handling the most write-intensive operations wears out, users simply replace it with a new disk without interrupting the RAID.”
The FlashStation FS3017 employs Synology’s award-winning NAS operating system DSM, with an integrated Snapshot Replication which creates 65,000 backup copies to offset servers as well as a visualisation solution which supports VMware, Citrix, Hyper-V, and OpenStack integration. Also, the product’s Windows ACL, Windows AD, LDAP integration in addition to application privileges makes it a suitable investment for large-scale businesses.
