Synology USB Station 2 Review

SoftwareThe Synology USB Station 2 comes supplied with DiskStation Manager 3.1 installed. The device can be accessed either using the Synology Assistant or directly from your chosen web browser using the IP address of the Synology USB Station 2. Once you’ve logged onto the Synology USB Station 2 for the first time you’re presented with the quick start menu which allows some basic configuration tasks to be preformed. This menu can be run at any time from the quick start shortcut on the desktop of the DiskStation Manager 3.1 operating system.
On the desktop the first program is the file browser which allows you to perform all basic file management tasks but handles it in a slightly different way within the DiskStation Manager 3.1 operating system. It also allows you to extract compressed files and compress files.
The control panel is the second item on the desktop which provides access to all the settings and applications of the Synology USB Station 2. These include File Sharing and Privileges, Network Services, System and Application Settings. The desktop also includes a help guide and quick start.
In the top left of the DiskStation Manager 3.1 operating system is an arrow which provides access to additional system information and details. In additional to all the items on the desktop this also includes EZ-Internet, Resource Monitor, System information and Audio Station.
The EZ-Internet Wizard provides the facility to enable remote internet access to the Synology USB Station 2 enabling you to access your files while away from home.
The resource monitor shows the Synology USB Station 2 CPU, memory and network usage.
The system information provides general, network, storage and log information.
The audio station allows the Synology USB Station 2 to act as a network media player containing your music and play lists allowing them to be accessed by any PC on the network.
