He’s Back! Terminator 2: Judgment Day is Returning to Theaters in 4K 3D

James Cameron’s Terminator is back as promised. This time it will be in 4K 3D and is booked for a special return engagement in AMC theaters. The sequel is timeless going by many movie and sci-fi fan standards, so it is perfect for restoration. AMC theaters hope that the 4K restored version and immersive 3D experience introduces the film to a new generation. While some may be cynical about the 3D conversion, fans will be glad to hear that James Cameron himself oversaw the process.

Even in 1991, Terminator 2: Judgment Day was ahead of its time. The $102 million production budget was astronomical, making it the most expensive film when it debuted. That is because of all the special effects and the meticulousness of Cameron’s work. However, once the film studio saw the $500 million in gross, it became the benchmark of blockbuster movies.

Unlike other action and science fiction movies of its time, Terminator 2 also won several awards. This included Academy Awards for best sound, best sound effects editing, best makeup and best visual effects.
