Take-Two Sells Its Indie Games Label, Private Division

The gaming industry is facing significant challenges, with major companies like Xbox, Nintendo, and PlayStation making tough decisions amidst economic pressures. In a similar move, Take-Two Interactive, known for owning Rockstar Games, has decided to part ways with its indie games label, Private Division.

Strategic Shift Towards Core Business Focus

The company officially announced its decision to sell Private Division, emphasizing a strategy to concentrate resources on core business areas. During the release of its second-quarter financial results, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick noted that the sale would encompass most of the label’s current and upcoming titles. However, specific details regarding the buyer or transaction amount remain undisclosed.

Despite the sale, Take-Two will continue to support No Rest for the Wicked, a game launched in early access in April of this year. Zelnick expressed gratitude to the Private Division team, saying he is confident the label will continue to succeed in its new phase.

Earlier reports in May hinted at layoffs and the closure of Intercept Games and Roll7 studios, developers behind titles like Kerbal Space Program 2 and OlliOlli World. Take-Two later confirmed these closures.

Founded in 2017, Private Division aimed to publish games from notable indie developers, boasting hits such as Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey by Panache Digital Games and The Outer Worlds by Obsidian, solidifying its legacy in the indie scene.
