TalkTalk Tops Most Recent Ofcom Broadband Complaint Report

TalkTalk tops broadband complaints

Ofcom, the office of communications in the UK have released their most recent report in regards to the worst broadband providers in regards to complaints.

Broadband can be a prickly subject. Given the modern reliance on the internet, any disruption can be highly annoying and often, downright obtrusive.

Unlike the FCC in American, Ofcom does generally seem to genuinely champion consumers rights. Only recently it criticised the entire broadband industry based on the fact that a reported million homes in the UK get substandard broadband.

As part of its service, Ofcom, in addition, releases quarterly reports detailing who they have received the most complaints about.

In an entirely unwanted accolade, TalkTalk has become the officially most complained about provider. In addition, those at BT who were top can breathe a small sigh of relief.

Broadband providers and complaints

On the previous announcement of figures, the top 6 was broken down with BT topping the list with TalkTalk in second. PlusNet, EE, Virgin, and Sky followed respectively.

In the latest report, coming to us via the Telegraph, TalkTalk has now topped BT on the listing.

Based on complaints per 100,000 customers, the new rankings are as follows:

  • TalkTalk – 30
  • Plusnet – 27
  • BT – 25
  • Virgin Media – 10
  • EE – 10
  • Sky 7

While BT and EE have dropped slightly, Ofcom did note that as a whole complaints were up for the period (July-September 2017).

It is thought that part of the issue regarding TalkTalk may have been due to complications in their customer service outsourcing. Utilising a call center in India, concerns were brought that the workers were attempting to solicit bank account details from the customers. This led to TalkTalk withdrawing the contract in August 2017.

Now, as a caveat, being the most complained about doesn’t make you the worst. It certainly doesn’t make you much good either.

TalkTalk, however, is not doing much to improve their already battered reputation.
