The TeamGroup Dark Z DDR4 Gaming Memory is available now from most major retailers. However, Amazon keeps selling out, making accurate pricing very difficult to attain. Even more so right after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Not only that, but I can only find limited stock of the Dark Z and not the Alpha. However, we understand that either the Intel or AMD focused kit is the same price. Just keep an eye out for the little Alpha logo on the heat spreader. You can check up to date pricing in the UK here and in the US here.
I’ve been saying this a lot recently, but there really aren’t many bad memory kits out there anymore. Sure, you can maybe find some unbranded DIMMs from a shoddy shopping app on your phone. However, you’ll really have to inconvenience yourself a lot to go finding them. From the big retailers and from the brands that people have actually heard of, prices are great, performance is great, and there are loads of cool designs out there too. The Dark Z certainly fits the bill here with competitive performance throughout all of our tests. While there wasn’t much in it, the new Alpha kit was just a little bit better too, which is never a bad thing.
As I said, 3600 MHz is plenty. However, if you’re on a tighter budget, I’m betting their slower kits are more than up to the job of most PC builds too. Of course, they’re about £20-30 cheaper too, which is kind to your wallet. Then again, memory prices are very reasonable right now, after the boosted prices of a year or two ago. If you want high-speed memory like the Dark-Z, now is a damn good time to buy.
While 3600 MHz is plenty for most PC gamers, we did manage to get a little bit of an overclock here too. It peaked at just 3800 MHZ, which isn’t really going to make a difference to real-world usage. However, it’s nice to see the kit still had a little bit more to give. Getting extra performance for free is certainly not a bad thing either way.
An extreme performance RGB riddled super expensive memory kit this is not. For that, I actually love it a little more than most. The market can get a bit carried away with extreme hardware at times. However, it’s nice to step back and find a product that’s reasonably priced, has sensible features and perfectly respectable and average performance.
