How Much Does It Cost?
The TeamGroup Dark Z DDR4 Gaming Memory is available now from most major retailers. However, Amazon only seem to have stock of the 3000 MHz 16GB (2 x 8GB) kit in stock in the UK at the time of writing. That’s listed at just £91.08 here in the UK rather than the expected £60. However, it’s just $64.99 in the US, so I suspect stock is low in the UK. We expect the 3600 MHz kit to be around £70-80. Furthermore, it’s also available in this gorgeous red version seen below; very sexy indeed.
Overview
There’s no shortage of great memory kits on the market these days. I’d even argue that quite a few of those kits come from TeamGroup themselves. It’s almost impossible these days to buy a terrible memory kit without really trying hard to do so. Of course, it helps that TeamGroup sent us the fastest kit in the new range, and at 3600 MHz the Dark-Z performance was right on the money.
Speed
As I said, 3600 MHz is plenty. However, if you’re on a tighter budget, I’m betting their slower kits are more than up to the job of most PC builds too. Of course, they’re about £20-30 cheaper too, which is kind to your wallet. Then again, memory prices are very reasonable right now, after the boosted prices of a year or two ago. If you want high-speed memory like the Dark-Z, now is a damn good time to buy.
Overclocking
This was a bit of a let down for the Dark-Z. We got a very small overclock out of the kit. Although, it’s not really a big budget overclocking memory kit, so it’s not really a big surprise. TeamGroup makes extreme performance memory kits, and you’ll have to dig deeper in your wallet for those. For most users though, posting speeds of 3600 MHz is all you’ll need these days for a decent high-end gaming PC. The latency and timings are great, the price is great, and the speed is great, so really, I’m not going to complain.
Should I Buy Them?
If you want extreme overclocking to 4000 MHz+ and dazzling RGB, you’ll want to look elsewhere. What I love about this memory is that there is no RGB at all. The aluminium heat spreaders just look great from the moment you take them out of the box. You get plenty of change from £100, and a choice of two gorgeous looking colours. Which colour would you choose; silver or red?
