Award-winning zombie survival horror game Dying Light now has a free Developer Tools kit for PC, allowing users to design and build their own quarantine zones.
Despite suffering technical issues – since patched – on release, Dying Light has developed a keen following, becoming Polish developer Techland’s best-selling game of all time, and winning the Best of E3 award for 2014. With gameplay that combines the survival horror and crafting elements of fellow Techland game Dead Island and the parkour stylings of Mirror’s Edge, Dying Light’s Developer Tools gives modders huge potential scope for creating their own version of the game.
Using the Dying Light Developer Tools, budding game designers can create new maps, scenarios, and even their own custom stories. The fruits of your labours can then be shared with other players through Steam Workshop.
Techland wants the Developer Tools to be accessible for all, even novices, so it has produced a six-part series of tutorial videos, though further videos for advanced users are planned for the future. Regular updates for the Developer Tools, with new features, assets, and functionalities will attempt to cater to feedback on the official Dying Light forum.
Are you a Dying Light player excited by the opportunity to create your own zombie-infested towns, or just a keen modder looking to try your hand with a new environment? Tell us about it, or let us know your favourite mods, in the comments.
