Advanced

The first function you find under the advanced pane is bandwidth control. Set an IP range and limit the bandwidth they’re allowed to use. No more drop-outs while you skype with your family, just because your son or daughter starts to stream HD content, for example. Just limit the speed they can use.

Dynamic DNS is also supported. Let your router update your domain name with your new IP whenever it changes. No need to keep track of this yourself or have some application running on your normal system just for this. Running Teamspeak servers and similar is very easy this way.

Speaking of running private servers, virtual port forwarding is also built-in and so is the De-Militarized Zone (DMZ)

UPnP shouldn’t be missing in any router these days, but it’s always great to see the possibility to turn it off.

The IPTV is an interesting setting and a great feature in this router, when needed. It will take the first LAN port and use it specifically for the IPTV protocol and make sure that it always works like it should.

USB

The built-in USB 2.0 port in the Tenda W568R allows you to share both files and printers over your network. This can be extremely useful. File transfers won’t be fast due to the USB 2.0 speeds, but you can still take a single drive and share it to everyone on your network.

Printer sharing is a bit more useful for a USB 2.0 port and probably what most people will use it for, next to using it as a charging port for mobile devices. With a function like this, you won’t need to go out and invest in a new network capable printer, you can just use your USB printer.

Security

Security feature are important and the Tenda W468R comes with both MAC, Client, and URL Filter. You can also define whether you want to enable the remote interface and what IP and port it should run on.

The DDOS defense is another great feature. While a feature like this can’t hold of large scale attacks, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll be hit with one. It is however great at dealing with nuisances and a great feature to have.

Tools

The tools pane is the last one and it provides access to log files, statistics, and system settings.

There’s sadly no online update function for the firmware, nor a check function or link to the support page here. To update the firmware you’ll manually have to find and download it before uploading it to the router to flash it.
