Pricing
TerraMaster’s F2-221 is widely available at the time of this review. It can be yours for $249.99 in the US and £229.99 in the UK. A more than fair price for the hardware you get.
Final Thoughts
Today I looked at one of TerraMaster’s latest devices and it was just as much a pleasure to test and review as the previous models. It is packed with great hardware and an OS that keeps getting updated. Performance wise, we saw some good figures which is no doubt due to a combination of the two.
Connection-wise it is quite simple, but it has more than a basic NAS. You get two USB 3.0 and two Gigabit Ethernet ports as well as an HDMI port. The downside on the HDMI is that it currently doesn’t display anything else than the console. However, with TerraMaster starting to add these ports to the NAS units, we can speculate that they’re working on a direct-output option too. I for one am crossing my fingers for such a feature.
A feature that surely will be loved by anyone who takes their storage serious is the Btrfs file system. The added benefits through snapshots is simply something you can’t overlook.
The design is the same as we’ve seen in the previous units. A proven design with aluminium, clean edges, and pinhole LEDs give it a great look.
Pros
- Intel CPU with 4K Transcoding and Hardware Encryption Engines
- Upgradable memory
- Btrfs File System
- Evolving OS with a growing App database
- Dual Gigabit LAN
Cons
- HDMI port is prompt only at this time
“TerraMaster continues to show us what great NAS devices are. The F2-221 convinces us with a great hardware base and a solid OS.”
