Multi-national supermarket chain Tesco have released a budget £119 tablet. Tesco are based in the UK but have stores in China, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, Slovakia, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, the United States and of course the UK. The new Hudl tablet (pronounced Huddle, pictured above) is a direct competitor to Amazon’s Kindle and Google’s Nexus 7, though coming in much cheaper than the Nexus 7. Of course that slightly cheaper price does mean slightly cut down specifications and the Hudl uses a 1440 x 900 display with a 1.5GHz quad core CPU, dual band WiFi, 16GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 48GB via microSD and it is expected to have 1GB of RAM. There’s also a microHDMI output port to allow for TV connectivity.
The Hudl runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with a full suite of Google Apps such as Chrome, YouTube, the Play Store and so on. Users of Tesco’s BlinkBox and Clubcard TV services will be able to access those fully through the new Hudl tablet. The tablet mainly runs stock Android but has some overlay customisations such as the T launcher button on the bottom left to allow users to access Tesco’s services. The Hudle is available in Blue, Purple, Black and Red for £119 but Tesco Clubcard (Tesco’s loyalty card) holders will be able to pick the tablet up for £60 of Tesco Vouchers as part of the Clubcard Boost program which doubles the value of Tesco vouchers.
