With all of the Tesla news regarding its autopilot feature, a system designed to take people from A to B with little to no human interaction, the system has come under recent scrutiny with several people holding it responsible for crashes and a death possibly being linked to the system. The answer to this recent spate of issues is to create a next-generation platform for their cars with even more camera and radar sensors adorning the vehicles.
The latest rumour points to the new system containing four additional radar modules, with one being placed in each corner of the car. The car will also get two additional front facing cameras to bring the total to three, giving the vehicle an extra depth of awareness of its surroundings.
Currently, Tesla’s cars have the physical housing for triple camera systems at the front, but with vehicles currently using a system, it can’t be considered functional in any sense. With no guides on when the new hardware could make it to Tesla’s vehicles, we are just going to have to wait for the new system to be released.
While new sensors and systems are great, we need to remain active and cautious while driving. Autopiloting functions are still only in their early stages and still require human interactions to help avoid incidents and dangers to both yourself and those on the road around you.
