Tesla Removes Steam Support from New Cars

Tesla has decided to stop supporting Steam gaming in its latest Model S and Model X vehicles. This change affects new buyers, who will no longer have access to Steam games on their car’s display.

Reason Behind the Decision

Tesla had integrated Steam in late 2022, allowing users to play games while the car was parked or charging. This feature was part of Tesla’s push to enhance in-car entertainment. However, the company recently notified new Model S and Model X owners about the update. The message read, “Tesla is updating the gaming computer in your Model X and your vehicle is no longer capable of playing Steam games. All other entertainment and app functionalities are unaffected.”

Existing owners of these models are not expected to be affected by this change. They should still be able to enjoy Steam gaming as before.

Tesla’s move to integrate Steam had been met with excitement, as it brought a vast library of high-performance games to its vehicles. However, the feature’s removal has sparked discussions. The decision may be due to low usage rates or performance issues within the vehicle’s gaming computer.

Future of Gaming in Tesla

Despite this setback, Tesla remains committed to providing entertainment options in its cars. The company continues to offer various other apps and functionalities. It’s possible that Tesla might revisit gaming integration with more refined solutions in the future.
