Tesoro Tizona Elite Keyboard & Numberpad Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Tesoro Tizona keyboard is currently hard to find in most retailers, a good Google turned up little or no results outside of the US or eBay, but you can purchase them directly from Tesoro. The Tizona keyboard is priced at $89.99 (US) while the Numberpad is currently $39.99 (down from $49.99), although you can buy the pair together for $109.99; a saving of $20.

Overview

The Tizona and its separate number pad are easily one of the most unique gaming keyboard setups on the market; sure it’s not the biggest innovation having the keyboard and numberpad as a separate unit, but it does open up a lot of technical possibilities that you simply don’t get with a fixed keyboard. Need extra macro keys on the left or even anywhere around your desk? You got it, need the numberpad for day-to-day work? No problem, need a TLK keyboard that’s short enough to fit in your backpack to take to LAN? Easy, and you could even pack the Numberpad in your bag too if you needed it, it’s certainly easy to store.

Build quality is very good, the whole keyboard feels rigid and durable, there are thick rubber grips, extra strong kick stands, powerful magnets to hold the two components together, thick braided cables and high quality mechanical switches. This is good news for anyone who’s going to be spending over $100 on this setup, you really do get the quality you’re paying for.

The Tizona keyboard and Numberpad come in a choice of switches, with Kailh Red, Black, Blue and Brown available for each. If you’re buying each component separately, there is no reason why you couldn’t mix them, Kailh Red switch keyboard and Kailh Blue in the Numberpad. For those of you who don’t know what Kailh switches are, they’re modeled on the more common Cherry MX switches, they’re just manufactured by a someone else.

Pros

  • Durable build quality
  • Retro Aesthetics
  • Detachable and independent numberpad
  • Thumb keys
  • Choice of Kailh switches

Cons

  • Limited availability outside of US, although we suspect this will improve in the near future

“The Tizona is a uniquely styled keyboard that is as adept at day-to-day work as it is for competitive gaming, with the added bonus of a surprisingly practical modular design. If you want something a little bit different to meet your ever-changing desktop gaming and work demands, then the Tizona should be high on your wanted list.”

Thank you Tesoro for providing us with this information.
