The Callisto Protocol on PS5 Pro reaches 8K at 30 fps with ray tracing enabled: an incredible achievement for the sci-fi survival horror directed by Dead Space creator Glen Schofield. However, this milestone comes a bit too late for the game director himself, who left the studio several months ago.
Specifically, the update allows the game produced by Krafton to run at 8K and 30 fps with ray tracing active or at 4K and 60 fps, always with ray tracing active. This makes it one of the most convincing showcases of the new Sony console’s capabilities.
The visual improvements brought to the experience, powered by a modified version of Unreal Engine 4, are surprising. They lay the foundations for a recovery of this title, which many believe was unfairly criticized at the time of its launch.
Recently, there has also been a lot of debate online after Sony removed the 8K label from the PS5 Pro’s packaging. While the console technically supports 8K output in certain scenarios, users questioned whether this feature is practical or widely implemented. Despite this, The Callisto Protocol is proving that 8K gaming is indeed possible under the right conditions, showcasing the console’s potential.
If you are a PS5 Pro owner, this update is a must-see. And if you have an 8K display, you should definitely try the game to experience its full visual potential.
