The Crew Servers Will Shutdown In March 2024

Bad news for fans of The Crew as Ubisoft has announced that the game servers will be going offline in March 2024.
The Crew 1 Server Shutdown
The Crew (1) is one of my all time favourite racing games, it was a proper open world racer with the entire USA as your playground. It featured many hours of activities, great zero to hero progression, a simple but enjoyable story (which is lacking in racing games) and strong vehicle customisation. Both of its paid DLC were brilliant and even offered free features, especially with the Wild Run DLC. Not all was good though, as the vehicle handling was crap and the game was always online which has led to todays unfortunate but not unexpected news.
The Crew 1 is no longer available for purchase on Steam with the following notice
“All editions and additional content for The Crew are no longer available for purchase. The game will remain playable until March 31st, 2024, for all The Crew owners. After this date, the game servers will shut down, which means the game will not be accessible anymore.”
This really sucks and effectively means the game that myself and many people have purchased will no longer work. Of course, I don’t expect Ubisoft to keep the servers up on an old game especially with both The Crew 2 and Motorfest. The fact is however, many people do prefer the original to the newer games, which are mostly just Forza Horizon clones with planes and boats. The first game was a bit more unique with a gritty story rather than just “happy festival, happy, happy, happy”.
There is some possible good news though, as the game features an offline mode which is hidden within the game files. A community post on Steam details this offline mode which currently involves a small team trying to unlock it with some slight progress. This may take some time but the idea that this offline mode exists could mean that Ubisoft will enable it when the game shuts down.
