The Intel Core i5-8500 Makes Its Way to the SANDRA Database

Intel’s Core “Coffee Lake” lineup is expanding.

Intel has been planning to expand its Core Coffee Lake lineup for a while now. Fortunately, we now have tangible evidence of the company’s progress in this regard. Through 2018, we expect to see B360 Express and H310 Express chipsets, both of which will appeal to budget-conscious consumers. The Core i5-8500 six-core processor will likely hit the sweet spot when it comes to pricing and performance, especially if it retails for about $200. It’s this exact processor that recently surfaced on a SiSoft SANDRA database entry. Therefore’ we’ll tell you a bit about it just so you know what to expect.

The details.

When compared to the Core i5-8400, the i5-8500 will be a bit more expensive, but it will also perform a bit better. The chip boasts a 3.00 GHz nominal clock speed, which is a slight improvement when compared to the 8400’s 2.80 GHz. We don’t have any specifics on Turbo Clock speeds, however, but we do know that the i5-8400 could reach 4.0GHz. Therefore, the i5-8500 could very well reach 4.20-4.30 GHz. Featuring six cores and six threads, the new processor offers 9 MB of shared L3 cache, as well as a TDP rating of 65W. When it comes to testing, it scored 139.63 GOPS in the Arithmetic test, 7.49 GB/s in the cryptography test, and 317.88 Mpix/s in the multimedia test.

This means that it can go toe-to-toe with the Ryzen 5 1600. Will it be worth it? You be the judge.
