The Mustang-200 is a scalable advanced computing accelerator for speeding up applications, computations and calculations. Coming equipped with dual i5/i7 Processors, 32GB Ram and 1TB NVMe SSDs all in a compact PCIe card form make this an enticing product!
A Computing Accelerator is exactly what it says on the tin! The purpose of such device is to speed up the performance of a system. However, rather than upgrading certain components such as CPU/RAM/GPU, you simply add what is effectively an extra system right onto your existing one! Of course, there is more to it than just adding it on. You connect the units via a PCIe x4 slot, which in turn then improves the overall performance of the computer. In this instance, rather than a traditional GPU, of which is designed to boost graphical capabilities. You get an entire secondary system with its own CPU, RAM and SSD Storage. This helps the system to perform more intensive tasks that would otherwise burden the other components of the computer.
The Mustang-200 is actually a very respectably stocked PCIe card. Featuring an i5 7267U capable of 3.50 GHz, and an i7 7567U capable of 4.00 GHz combined together. That’s not all either, there is also 32GB (4x8GB) RAM and an additional 1TB (2x 512GB) Intel NVMe SSD’s included too. All packed inside a compact, attractive unit no bigger than a standard GPU card.
Power is supplied via the PCIe x4 slot, however additional power can be supplied via pin connectors at the top. Of course, it doesn’t end there either as you can add multiple Mustang-200’s into one system. The only limitation is the number of PCIe x4 slots you have available.
Aimed primarily at the Prosumer market, the Mustang-200 is a high-end Accelerator that is. The utilisation of the card when it comes to various virtualization technologies is where the product shines.
The additional CPU’s allow for powerful assistance when it comes to video transcoding and streaming. Processing and rendering of Ultra High Definition 360 surround videos. The advanced structure of the card makes it ideal for the professional who wants to reduce the pressure of the workload on their system.
Fog computing, also known as fog networking or fogging, is a decentralised computing infrastructure in which data, compute, storage and applications are distributed in the most logical, efficient place between the data source and the cloud.
Fog computing essentially extends cloud computing to the edge of the network. The goal of fogging is to improve efficiency and reduce the amount of data transported to the cloud for processing, analysis and storage. This is often done to improve efficiency, though it may also be used for security and compliance reasons. The Mustang-200 has been designed to allow the seamless and effective use of Fog Computing.
The Mustang-200 is currently on Kickstarter here, The campaign is still very young and they have a relatively low goal of $35,000 over 60 days. Of course, this is most certainly achievable. However, you will need to take into account the cost of the device. As far as the card itself goes, the Mustang-200 is the most affordable technology of its kind on the market. Despite this, it does still carry a hefty price tag of $1499+.
The benefits and practicality that the card can offer will make this price tag seem irrelevant for a professional buyer. Do you think you could utilise something such as the Mustang-200 in your system?
