The new SteelSeries Sensei, a master of its art

SteelSeries has done it again, and with only three days separating the announcement of a new mouse, they are coming out with a new one, the Sensei.

From the SteelSeries website:

MEET THE SENSEI
Since the release of our first mouse, we have been using Japanese-inspiration in our naming of them. Our mice are built for performance and tournament-style play; Ikari means anger, Xai means talent, and the list of product names goes on. The Sensei is our version of the grand-master in our Do Jo. It is the teacher. The one everyone bows to, the one who knows tricks and secret moves that everyone wants to learn – but so very few can ever hope to master. It’s a fitting name. Master your game. Meet the Sensei.

I’ve learned myself that a sensei is not only a warrior beast in the body of a rather old man, but it is also an experienced and wise person, and this mouse has learned a lot!

Did I say old man? Well don’t be fooled, for thing is fast, not only is it light (0.22 lbs-102 grams), but it has one of the highest CPI I’ve ever seen: 11,400! This is all down to its 32 bit ARM processor they are using, which basically doubles the mouse’s sensitivity.

This mouse really holds its name, for the SteelSeries FreeMove is a path correction program that allows for a more fluid movement of the mouse, and if you don’t want it, you can disable it.

The Sensei features a total of eight buttons, one being a CPI high/low switch, which leaves seven buttons, all can be programmed, including macros with timing which isn’t really new in today’s mice, but it’s still a feature.

SteelSeries claim that the 32 bit ARM processor integrated into the mouse is as fast as the original Pentium 75Mhz processor (released in 1994), which sounds a lot, but according to them it’s just what you need so that no driver is needed.

This mouse also has other features such as “ExactTech”, “ExactLift”, “ExactAim”, “ExactAccel” and “ExactSens” which are rather self explanatory.

What strikes me most about this mouse is something I’ve seen before, but not quite in the same location: an LCD screen. Want to hazard a guess at where it’s at? Underneath it. This LCD may seem useless, but it’s actually very clever, since you don’t need a driver, neither a program so no computer is required, which leaves the LCD, and that’s where everything comes to sense, for this will be your customization tool and can second as a personalized screen.

This mouse is also fitted with lights with a large palette of choice which includes off, so it really satisfies everyone, including MAC users, as it’s compatible.

The master will show its face to the world in September this year at the price of €89.99/$89.99/£52.92.
