The ULTIMATE Quarantine Gaming PC

Where to Buy

As you can see, I kinda built all this fairly custom. What works for you is not always the same as what worked for me. I got the arcade base unit flat-packed from Richs Bar Top Arcades. He has a load to choose from and stock changes pretty much as he makes them, so it may be best to message him.

The PC is obviously up to your discretion. However, I highly recommend the AMD Ryzen 3400G from AMD. No dGPU is a good idea for an internal PC like this, lower heat, lower noise, lower power consumption. The choice of monitor is a tricky one too, many will opt for older 4:3 panels, but there’s no shortage of affordable 1080p panels, such as the AOC E-Series.

Again, the choice of motherboard, RAM, storage, and PSU is all up to you too, but thank you Corsair, AMD, AOC, and Gigabyte for providing us with the components.

You could even choose an older PC or a Raspberry Pi, a console, an external PC. Make it yours, that’s what I say.

The arcade buttons, sticks, controllers, are all readily available. Honestly, it’s crazy just how many options there are for such a small price. Just look on Amazon, you’ll be staggered. SteelSeries Stratus Duo Controllers are available from most major retailers for around £64.99.

What to Play

My kids wanted to say thanks to all the brands. My daughter said “the Donkey Kong logo is amazing” and when I asked if she wanted to say more I got “Uhm, I dunno, Whatever…” and James said “it’s cool” and well, wiser words have never been spoken. Here’s their favourite games so far:

Lauren (6yr Old)

  • Mario Wii
  • Mortal Kombat III
  • Frogger
  • Donkey Kong
  • Mario Kart Arcade
  • Mario 64
  • Super Mario World
  • WonderBoy

James (13yr Old)

  • Donkey Kong
  • Deathsmiles
  • Tapper
  • Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa
  • Mortal Kombat III
  • Defender
  • Street Fighter II

Want to see more? We may get a few videos together of the rig in action. Let us know in the comments section and let me know what games you think the kids (and everyone else) needs to play next!

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
