This is the second time today that news around the Q4 2024 Earnings Call has come up as previously CEO, Andrew Wilson was asked about ads in video games and hinting that they may come back in the future. In the same Q4 2024 Earnings Call CEO, Andrew Wilson said that the next battlefield game will be a “tremendous live service” title.
The first thing that this reminded me of was when Ubisoft claimed that Skull and Bones were going to be the first “Quadruple A Game” and look how that turned out.
This shouldn’t surprise you as live service model games may be pretty well hated, but they do make a lot of money. Just look at Battlefield 2024 when it came out it was a mess with multiplayer in a barely functioning state and no single-player mode.
Now although not perfect Battlefield 2024 does have a pretty healthy player count with around 20,000 people playing each day on Steam alone.
