Thecus’ newest NAS is a 1U Rackmount NAS called the N4810U. The new NAS is designed to be a replacement for the N4510 PRO, a budget friendly SMB 4-bay NAS.
“The new N4820U series provides a low acquisition cost for SMB users seeking reliable high performance from their NAS solution,” says Florence Shih, General Manager at Thecus Technology Corp.
Inside the new N4820U is an Intel Celeron N3450 quad-core processor which has a 1.1GHz base clock and a Burst speed up to 2.2GHz. The CPU is coupled with 4GB DDR3 RAM which is upgradeable to 8GB, should you need more.
The 1U-sized system features 4 drive bays for a raw capacity of 40TB when using 10TB drives, 30TB with an RAID5 setup. That should be plenty of capacity for most setups. The system itself runs from a 1GB USB DOM.
Thecus equipped the system with three RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet ports. They can be used for connectivity to multiple subnets or linked for increased performance. External storage and expansions can easily be connected through two USB 3.0 ports on the rear. There’s also a front USB 2.0 port for quick access where speed doesn’t matter.
While a direct display output isn’t common for a rackmount NAS, the N4820U comes with two options for it. It has an HDMI port as well as a DisplayPort connector. It also features a line-out audio connection on the rear while the front has an LCM status display.
Thecus made the N4820U in two versions, one with a normal power supply and one with a redundant power supply. The single PSU version has 250W while the redundant version has 300W. More than enough for this system and the setup you’ll create with it.
The NAS is naturally running the latest Thecus OS, 7.0, and it comes with all the features we know and love. This includes Thin provisioning, replication for disaster recovery, snapshot technology (Btrfs only), Data Guard for disaster recovery (for real-time remote or local backup) as well as backup to cloud services including DropBox, ElephantDrive, and Amazon S3.
The system also comes bundled with Acronis True Image and Intel/McAfee security and antivirus software.
The brand new Thecus N4820U comes with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $670 USD for the single-PSU version and $919 USD for the redundant PSU version.
