Thecus introduced their new budget-oriented NAS series a while ago, and now it’s finally available worldwide. The two new devices are the 2-bay N2350 and the 4-bay N4350. The two new NAS’ will allow you to enter a world where you keep full control of your own data without having to invest a fortune.
There is no real difference between the two new devices except for the number of drives you can install, 2 or 4. The rest is the same. If you don’t need a whole lot of storage, then the 2-bay is plenty with its 24TB raw storage abilities. Should you need more, then the 4-bay will offer up to 48TB, if you install the latest 12TB drives.
Inside the new NAS series is a Marvell Armada 385 dual-core processor with 1GHz and 1GB DDR4 memory. It also features 512MB onboard NAND flash for the operating system. That isn’t a lot as such, but it’s still plenty for a lot of usage scenarios. Sharing files over your network and streaming HD content to various devices doesn’t require a whole lot of performance. Those tasks are easily handled by the N2350 and N4350 and Thecus OS 7, the operating system powering these devices.
While general data storage and media streaming is great, the new NAS devices have another feature too. They can easily act as your own private cloud solution. Third-party cloud services aren’t as secure as we’d like, a thing seen in recent data breaches. The simple fact that they host files from so many people makes them a valuable target. So why not host your files at home, protected by your hardware and settings, and at zero cost. Okay, you’ll have to purchase the unit, the drives, and pay for the electricity, but that’s it. Thecus offers mobile access with Thecus Connect and Orbweb.me for easy setup and maintenance. It’s easier to set up than a random email account, so it’s nothing to be afraid of. There are a lot more features and functions through app installations, so you aren’t limited to the above.
The two new devices are available worldwide now for a low asking price. The N2350 can be yours for less than 120 Euro/USD and the N4350 for less than 200 Euro/USD.
