Backup and Apps

As previously mentioned the Thecus N2810 comes with a full set of backup options, from local to remote as well as Rsync services and cloud services. Even more options can be added through the use of apps.

The setup is as easy as everything else we’ve seen up until now and it is no different for the backup options. You can also quickly get a view of what jobs you have added and running thanks to the listview-type display.

Whether you want to backup locally to the same server or remotely to a different one, the setup is basically the same and so is the display.

Having your NAS act as a Rsync server is an easy way to backup clients to your centralized storage. Just a few clicks and it’s running.

Setting up Amazon’s S3 service works in much the same way thanks to the same layout. This is something Thecus has done through the entire ThecusOS 7, kept similar function designed the same, and it is something that makes it far more user-friendly.

The System Failover function is probably one that will be used by enterprise users more than home users. It is a vital feature for modern businesses that require uninterrupted service no matter the circumstances. The setup here, again, is as easy as it could be. Define the role, pair it up and it’s done.

Apps

There is one default app installed, if you can call it that, and it is a vital one: the File Center. The File Center is an explorer like file manager that allows full control of your content directly from the user interface. Browse your files, up and download new ones, or move it all around.

File management is just one of the File Center’s functions, it can also be used to share individual files with people. You can protect the shares with a password and you can also set an expiration date for the share.

Editing options of shares are as easy as it was to create them, so you don’t need to worry about scenarios where you change your mind later.

More apps can be installed through the fittingly named App Center. There is already a good list of available options and more are added all the time.

You can view more information about a single app by pressing the field or you can quickly install them by simply pressing the quick-button that is available for each app. Once an app is installed, you can also access its app page from this quick-button.

Show junkies will be pleased to find both CouchPotato, SickBeard, and SABnzbd available, ready to leech and stream what you heart desires.

Transmission is a very popular download manager and you’ll find that on the N2810 too. It can handle all sorts of downloads from HTTP to Torrents and Magnet links with a maximum amount of options and settings to keep everything in your control.

Besides all the officially listed apps, you can also manually add modules and module lists to the setup, allowing you to expand your options even further.

Some apps that run on their own still have a manageable app page to configure them, like KODI as shown here.
