Thecus just unveiled a new enterprise-level NAS with 12 drive bays and it is the first Thecus NAS to embrace the Intel Skylake CPUs and DDR4 memory for an even better performance than the predecessors. The new Thecus N12910 offers enhanced processing power and speed, alongside all the functionality and reliability that is synonymous with Thecus’ enterprise-level NAS and it is a powerful solution to tackle even the most intricate business storage requirements.
“Thecus is once again at the forefront of technology, the addition of this next generation hardware into the Thecus product line allows businesses to access their secured data faster, with greater reliability and robustness. The N12910 delivers Thecus NAS users with a superior choice when selecting a storage solution for their company’s future” said Florence Shih, General Manager of Thecus Technology Corp.
The N12910 is equipped with the Intel Skylake Core i3-6100 3.70 GHz dual-core processor. The new Intel processor architecture brings improvement with its manufacturing process. This brings the users faster single-core and multi-core performance while reducing the required amount of electricity at the same time. That is a win-win situation. It can also be upgraded with other Skylake CPUs from Celeron to XEON.
The same could be said for the upgrade from DDR3 to DDR4 memory. The new standard requires less power while they deliver more performance and less latency. The N12910 comes equipped with just 4GB DDR4 ECC RAM by default, but it can be expanded up to 64GB to run even the most demanding and memory hungry features.
With 12 drive bays, the N12910 can easily pack up to 120TB raw storage which can be expanded further with expansion units. The NAS features two Gigabit Ethernet ports by default, but it is 10GbE ready and can easily be expanded with add-in cards through its PCIe slots. It comes with two 16-lane slots (1 x16 or 2 x8), one 4-lane, and one 1-lane which is a very similar setup to what you might know from your normal gaming or work system.
The system is powered by Thecus OS which brings features such as High Availability system redundancy for perfect operational performance, Real-time Remote Replication and System Disaster Recovery, and it comes bundled with Free Acronis True Image and Intel Security as well as basic features such as secure remote access with VPN connections.
