It’s incredible that after over 20 years, Theme Hospital hasn’t been given a sequel. EA‘s acquisition of Bullfrog is obviously a major factor in that. They do love buying IP’s just to either destroy or ignore them.
Two Point Hospital is, however on the way. As a spiritual successor, Theme Hospitals fingerprints are all over it and we now have a video showcasing some gameplay.
In the screenshots we have seen so far, it seems clear that this game is the sequel to Theme Hospital we fans have always wanted. Now, of course, due to legal reasons it couldn’t carry the name, but don’t let that fool you. This is, for all intents and purposes, Theme Hospital 2.
In the below video via PCGamer, we get to see some footage from the upcoming game release and so far, things are looking excellent!
We know that the project is being undertaken by former employees of Bullfrog and Lionhead Studios, so immediately, we know we’re onto something pretty special here and decidedly British.
Part of the fun of the original game was the injection of British humour. It seems that despite 20 years passing, none of that has been lost on this sequel.
Only being announced in January, this game took a lot of people by surprise. Even more so perhaps how quickly it’s going to hit the shelves.
At present, a release date is planned for August 2018. As crazy as it sounds, that is only 6 months away. Well, of course, assuming no delays. This is definitely, however, pretty high on my ‘must play’ games of 2018.
