Thermaltake ARGENT K5 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

A Closer Look

The keyboard comes hard-wired with a rather chunky and very durable feeling cable. It’s quite long too, so those of you with massive desks shouldn’t have anything to worry about.

It’s no surprise that it’s a thicker cable, as it actually has two USB headers and an audio jack! They’re all gold-plated too. One is needed for the keyboard, but the other USB and jack are optional for the pass-through ports.

The keyboard its self looks pretty cool, it’s certainly unique too, with a large aluminium chassis that just oozes premium quality. However, the most prominent feature is that it has a big kink in it. The number pad and arrow keys side is lower down. However, there’s a big black block acting as a riser, so the switches are all the same height. Why? Because it looks interesting, that’s why.

The two-tone look certainly makes this keyboard pop though, and while style is subjective, I’d gladly have this on my desk, I know that much!

There are some nice looking key caps on here too, but interestingly for an RGB keyboard, the font is really slim, so I can’t see this letting much light through at all. I do like the look of it though.

The F-keys offer up a range of secondary functions too, such as a few shortcuts.

Adjustments to the lighting profiles and effects.

Full colour tuning adjustments.

And there are profiles, lighting modes, and much more here too. Honestly, you can tune every switch and colour without the software, which is pretty fantastic.

Multimedia controls are essential for me, as I always have my music on while working or gaming. There’s the usual play/pause, stop, previous and next buttons. However, below that there’s the gaming mode, master lighting control and Windows lock key too!

This trick little thing is the volume wheel, and it even has a lovely mute button on the side that can be pressed. I must admit, I’m a sucker for a good volume wheel, and this one has the same heavy aluminium design as their ARGENT mouse, which is great, it’s little details like this that add up.

The number pad is pretty standard, but that’s a good thing, of course.

As you can see, there’s that funky step in the aluminium frame. It’s odd to see a big block of plastic to ensure the keys are at the right height.

However, I really do think it looks cool, it’s a bit different, but likely not to everyone’s taste.

Around the back, you’ll find the USB pass-through port and headphone jack, perfect for hooking up a headset, mouse, microphone, etc.

The bottom of the keyboard has four large rubber grips, plus it’s a fairly heavy keyboard so if you rage type, it’s unlikely it’ll go sliding around your desktop.

The feet are quite clever too, offering a smaller foot for a slight angle increase.

Or you can up the whole thing for a bigger adjustment!
