The Thermaltake ToughPower GF3 is available to purchase now with consumers looking at a price in the region of £279.98. – Now, admittedly, on the surface this seems like quite a lot of money for a power supply. With this in mind though, there are clearly a number of factors to be considered. – Firstly, at 1350 watts, this is a notably huge amount of power output. Not to mention the fact as well that our testing clearly showed this is a quality design that should easily outlive its already impressive 10-year warranty.
In terms of the range as a whole, however, the 1350W does seem to represent the best option of the most high-tier options. Especially so since its 1200W alternative is only £20 less expensive at £259.99. Frankly, at this point, I think it would be bordering on madness to not pick the 1350W model just for a little extra future-proofing as GPU and CPU power requirements will undoubtedly increase in the future.
Our testing clearly shows throughout all of the results that the Thermaltake ToughPower GF3 is not just a good power supply, it’s an excellent one! – Every single result was highly impressive and more than indicative that this is a quality, premium-level PSU design. Although it might sound like we’re bordering on waxing lyrical, every single score provided in our testing was highly-impressive and with an exceptionally solid and professional design both inside and out, there is, quite honestly, nothing to fault here.
With its fully modular cable design, this in itself clearly provides the user with a lot of functionality and particularly so when it comes to keeping a tidy case. The length, in addition, is also more than generous to ensure that even the bulkiest or unforgiving of chassis designs shouldn’t represent a problem. Admittedly though, the key highlight when it comes to practicality is undoubtedly seen in its support for PCIe Gen5 and ATX 3.0. – The former particularly since all upcoming next-gen GPUs seem to be transitioning to this new power standard.
Put simply, the Thermaltake ToughPower GF3 is built to last and offers all the features needed (including plenty of output) to ensure that this PSU should easily outlast several systems builds as other components are swapped, changed, or upgraded!
There is no denying that the power supply market is changing. – While there was once an emphasis on what would usually be considered ‘reasonable’ wattage outputs with higher efficiency ratings, today, it feels like the roles have reversed. And that’s not a criticism of any of the PSU manufacturers who are angling themselves towards this trend. The writing is on the wall that, at least for the foreseeable future, new tech releases (CPUs/GPUs, etc.) are ultimately going to require more and more power to offer increasingly higher levels of performance. And, with this in mind, higher wattage PSUs are going to become increasingly necessary.
This does, therefore, perhaps best highlight that while offering six different variants in the ToughPower GF3 series ranging from 750W all the way up to 1650W might have once been considered madness, it’s nothing more now than a prudent move to ensure consumers get longevity out of their power supplies while still offering something for everyone.
Yes, on the surface of things this does seem like rather a lot of money for a PSU that ‘only’ has an 80-Plus Gold efficiency rating. With that being said though since when did being ‘Gold’ become so mediocre? – There are still plenty of PSUs that just about scrape a bronze that want similar amounts of money for this kind of output!
It’s a high price for sure, but with the Thermaltake ToughPower GF3 you’re undoubtedly getting a PSU that’s not only built to last but one that offers exceptionally high-levels of performance with plenty of future-proofing ready to go right now! And hey, if 1350W isn’t right for you, well you have five other models in the series to pick from! – Put simply, whatever Thermaltake ToughPower GF3 you pick, you’re not going to regret it!
