Thermaltake Level 20 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

A Closer Look

The keyboard looks absolutely stunning, although it’s easily one of the biggest keyboard I’ve ever had on my desk too. I use a TKL keyboard daily, which only makes this feel even bigger. Those with small desks, you may want to look for a keyboard that’s been on a diet. This one, however, has been gorging on mass amounts of aluminium. The top panel looks fantastic in a lightly textured aluminium housing that extends about an inch out of each side of the keyboard, if not more.

There’s a split in the section between the arrow keys and the main keys too, which helps break up the design. There’s RGB all the way around the keyboard, and I mean ever bit of the edge, including in this little gap. IF that wasn’t enough, there’s plenty more.

The “split” in the keyboard doesn’t run too far up. However, there’s an in-lay RGB strip running up the keyboard to bridge that section too. We’ll come back to this though, as it’s much easier to show when the RGB is actually powered on.

Added Control

Thermaltake has taken a brute force approach to features on this keyboard. It has just about everything you can possibly have on a keyboard crammed in here. Well, maybe crammed isn’t the right word, the keyboard is big enough to accommodate everything. In the top right, it has full multimedia controls, as well as a volume wheel. I love having these on my keyboard, as I tend to listen to a lot of music while working and gaming. No more tabbing out just to skip tracks!

There’s a full-size numberpad on the right, obviously. Here you can also see how that extended keyboard chassis works. It isn’t just a solid flat piece, and it rolls and curves and sweeps on each side. It creates a bump-stop style wrist rest on the front edge too.

More Control

The entire top row of keys have secondary Fn-Shift functions too. There’s a few launches on these ones, for home, email, calculator, etc.

Furthermore, we have a range of lighting effects built-in, and you can adjust the speed, direction and other details of the lighting configuration. There are more options on the Fn-Shift keys to change profiles, turn the lights off, and all the usual stuff too. Most of what you can do in the software, can be done on the fly if needed.

RGB Edges

So, while many RGB keyboards are happy with throwing in some switches and calling it done, Thermaltake has gone more than one further. The entire edge of the keyboard is trimmed with this milky white plastic. Of course, there’s a plethora of RGB lights behind all of it.

It runs around the front, both sides, all the way around the back, and even into that custom cut notch on the front edge. Then they even have RGB in the TT logo in the corner.

Since ever other side of the keyboard has a cool feature, we see there’s also a USB port and audio jack at the back. These are perfect for hooking up your headphones, microphone, mouse, or anything else really.

Underside

So, there’s nothing exciting and unique going on here, right? Wrong!

While the keyboard does have rubber grips under here, at 1.5KG it’s unlikely to slide around anyway. However, it also has these very clever kickstands.

For a slight height adjustment, just flip up the inner section.

Need more angle? Flick up the bigger stand for an added lift. Pretty cool, right!!

Custom

Thanks to the handy key-cap puller, we can quickly remove the caps for easy cleaning of the keyboard. It also gives us a look at those sexy Cherry MX Speed switches!

Of course, with custom caps in the box, it would be rude to put them back the way we found them. I don’t need WASD in red, but damn does it look cool.
