A Closer Look – Interior
The OEM producer for the Thermaltake London 550W is likely Channel Well Technology (CWT). CWT are well known for making cost effective platforms capable of 80 Plus Gold efficiency. The Thermaltake logo on the PCB indicates this is likely a custom design for Thermaltake’s use only. The layout and design seems similar to the Toughpower Gold 550W but there are observable differences.
AC line filtering starts at the receptacle with a variety of X & Y capacitors, CM chokes and MOVs. There is no EMI shielding for the receptacle.
A Nippon-Chemic Con KMR series 400V, 390UF and 105 degrees Celsius rated hold-up capacitor provides the primary side.
A selection of electrolytic and polymer capacitors from a variety of vendors provides the secondary side. We can see plenty of these are rated for 105 degrees celsius operation which is great to see as higher temperature tolerances normally mean higher quality capacitors.
The main cooling fan is a Yate Loon manufactured unit with a Brushless bearing. Thermaltake label this part TT-1425B but it is the same as Yate Loon’s D14SM-12 fan. The specifications of this fan are up to 1400RPM, 29 dBA and 62 CFM. The fan is temperature controlled.
