Over Power Protection and Max Wattage

When it comes to power supplies, while they may have a rated amount there is nearly always a little extra ‘under the hood’. This is there to ensure that if your system does occasionally require a little more, the power supply isn’t going to start panicking! This is, of course, no substitution for ensuring you get the right power supply wattage for your system.

So, how did the Thermaltake Smart BX1 550w do? Well, the short answer is, fantastically. Achieving 706 watts before the over power protections kicked in is very impressive. Put simply, there’s around 20-25% of extra power available if you need it. Although this should never be relied upon, it’s nice to know that if you come calling, this power supply will answer the door!
