Thermaltake Smart M550W Review

A Closer Look – Interior

The OEM for Thermaltake’s Smart M550W semi-modular power supply appears to be Channel Well Technology (CWT). CWT also make Corsair’s CX series power supplies. If I’m not mistaken this platform is very similar to the one used on the Corsair CX500M V1 (not the improved/revised V2). As a result the performance might not be that great.

The fan used is Thermaltake’s TT-1425 140mm fan capable of up to 1800RPM.

Two Y caps and one X cap provide the transient filtering.

Active PFC is provided on the main PCB.

The primary hold up capacitor is rated for 85 degrees celsius, 400V and 330uF.

The vast majority of capacitors are rated for  85 degrees but there are a few that are rated for 105 degrees. Those are the better Japanese capacitors, not all of them are Japanese capacitors but some of them are which is always good to see especially on a budget unit. Let’s just hope the cheaper capacitors do not drag the rest of the unit down.
