Installation

Installing the Thermaltake Toughfan 12 is no more difficult or easy than any other fan. It’s either 4 screws (which come provided in the box) or two metal clips should you choose to make this a replacement cooling fan for your air CPU cooler. Fortunately though, for those not too familiar with how fans work, Thermaltake does give you a little diagram on the side indicating the airflow direction.

Performance

As this is a cooling fan, there is no strict methodology we can use to provide a 100% check of how it performs against the official specifications. However, we have more than enough tools at our disposal to give a rough indication of just how accurate a representation they are.

Fan Speed: – Tested by Setting the Fan to Maximum Speed within the BIOS

  • Official rated amount – 2,000 RPM (Although not stated on the packaging, this usually comes with a 10% allowance (in either direction) of deviancy)
  • Sample Recorded Speed – 1,982

Airflow

  • Official rated amount – 58.35 CFM
  • Sample Recorded – 57.96 CFM

Noise

  • Official rated amount – 22.3 dBA
  • Sample Recorded – 23.1 dBA (Adjusted to account for ambient noise levels)

Following the above results, therefore, we can happily conclude (adjusting for a fair margin of error given the overall unideal testing circumstances) that the Thermaltake Toughfan 12 easily meets its stated performance credentials.

Aesthetics

Although this cooling fan lacks any ARGB lighting, we still think that the ‘Racing Green’ colour is a very attractive option, and when running, it’s not only more than competent at its job, but honestly looks more than a little nice. Admittedly, this fan would probably look best within a colour-coded system. And wouldn’t you know, Thermaltake has ‘Racing Green’ case designs available to purchase.
