Thermaltake Toughfan 12 Review

Practical Features

We should note that this point in the review that the Toughfan 12 fans are available in single or double packs and, in this instance, Thermaltake provided us with 2 of the individual 120mm fans. As such, we were able to utilize both of these within our review to get a much better idea as to how they would perform as part of a radiator fan replacement set or general system fans.

We should also note that Thermaltake does technically refer to these as ‘radiator’ fans and this is a common term within the industry as a whole. With that being said, however, we see absolutely no reason why you couldn’t use them for replacement CPU cooler/AIO radiator fans or indeed intake/exhaust on your chassis.

With Thermaltake providing you with both the long and short screws, you are certainly not limited as to where you can install this fan right out of the box. In addition, with that low-noise adaptor included, should you really value quiet performance, the inclusion of that (through limiting the power the fan/s receive) does provide an excellent option.

Strong & Quiet

Thermaltake is also keen to emphasize that the Toughfan 12 has been specifically created for strong but quiet airflow performance. Its 2nd-generation designed hydraulic bearing looks to provide not only whisper-quiet acoustic levels but it should also ensure that it will remain this way for an exceptionally long period of operational time. In addition, with its anti-vibration pads to the installation surface, these should also help to, again, keep those noise levels nice and low!

Aesthetics

The Toughfan 12 comes in a primarily off-black coloring that is excellently set against the silver highlighted areas. The combination of colors, while all essentially shades of grey, blend together excellent to make this really appealing to the eye.

While there is Thermaltake branding present, it’s also rather nice to see that they have chosen to keep this rather minimal. It’s an aspect of the aesthetic that again lends itself well to the professional ethos this product exudes.

Finally, a closer look at the fan blades reveal them to have a ‘brushed metal’ effect. This really does look fantastic and when caught in the right light, throws off some surprisingly nice patterns to the blades when in operation.
