Thermaltake TOUGHFAN 12 RGB Fan Kit Review

Consumers are undoubtedly spoiled for choice when it comes to cooling fan products with many models available to choose from to, pretty much, suit all requirements and budgets. – This is, however, a market that Thermaltake takes incredibly seriously and particularly so, wherever possible, to represent themselves as not just one of the best brands around, but also one of the most innovative.

With this in mind, therefore, following the release of their brand new TOUGHFAN 12 RGB fan kit, let’s take a closer look and see exactly what Thermaltake has managed to produce here!

Thermaltake TOUGHFAN 12 RGB

Available to purchase now in both 120mm and 140mm kits, for this review we’ll specifically be taking a closer look at the 120mm variant since this is, by far and away, one of the most commonly used fan configurations within a PC system (and also components). – And in regards to the kit aspect, at the time of writing the Thermaltake TOUGHFAN 12 RGB is currently only available as triple-fan packs. Still, we anticipate it likely that single/individual models will be available to purchase at some point in the future.

So, what do we have with the Thermaltake TOUGHFAN 12 RGB? Well, available as a triple-fan kit, the most distinctive feature of this new release is that the RGB lighting effects are not located on the fan blades. They are, instead, installed on the bezel. Now, admittedly, this isn’t an entirely new concept as many other fans offer some ARGB/RGB lighting effects to the frame rather than the fan itself. – With the Thermaltake TOUGHFAN 12 RGB, however, this is undoubtedly one of the most extensive and fascinating iterations of it I’ve seen to date!

Not only does the entire bezel feature fully-customisable RGB lighting, but this is featured on both the front and rear of the fan ensuring that however you choose to fit these (either in a push or pull configuration) you’ll still get some absolutely amazing visual effects. – This is also carried through on the sides with sectional patterns allowing the RGB to shine through (an excellent bit of added aesthetics if you plan to fit these to an AIO radiator).

Regarding that point though, although primarily marketed as ‘radiator fans’, we see absolutely nothing restricting these to specific/exclusive use on an AIO liquid cooler or custom-loop radiator. Admittedly, their tight bezel does seem to make them well suited to the task with a more plush fit clearly allowing for better levels of static pressure. – With that being said though if you simply want to use these as intake fans for the front of your ATX case, there’s absolutely nothing stopping you from doing that!

Overall, I really like the concept of bringing the ARGB to the bezel. When compared to a lot of alternatives, this definitely seems to represent something different. Before we take a closer look, however, let’s see what features and specifications the Thermaltake TOUGHFAN 12 RGB offers!
