How Much Does It Cost?

At the time of writing, the Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 (850w) has a price of around £108.57 (plus delivery) This does appear to be slightly less expensive than in the US with prices of around $119.99 via the official website.

While it would’ve perhaps been a little more attractive if this had tipped below the £100 mark, it is still a highly impressive power supply for this price. Remember, this is rated to gold-efficiency, but in our testing borderlines on Platinum, a factor that (if certified) would immediately add £30-£40 to the price.

Performance

The Thermaltake Toughpower brand has always been about professional performance and that is certainly the case here with the GF1.

Throughout our testing, this power supply provided excellent results and in many areas performed well beyond its own advertised remit. A particular highlight of this is the excellent low ripple scores and (at the risk of sounding like a broken record) the power efficiency levels which well exceeded the gold-rating.

Practicality & Functionality

The Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 is solid, well designed, sleek and an exceptionally strong performer. Everything you would want from a power supply really.

Our tests clearly found that in terms of day to day or strong usage, this had plenty under the hood to keep things running. With the ‘smart zero fan’ functionality as well, if noise is a top priority then this has you covered!

That isn’t to say, however, that this power supply is perfect. As noted in our review, the length of the cabling is rather short and, as such, might provide you with some management headaches. Don’t get us wrong though, it’s not too short to cause problems. It is, however, right on the limit to just make it that bit more awkward than you might have liked.

Should I Buy One?

When you are buying a power supply, there are usually 3 remits that should be top of your priorities. Namely, is it a good brand? Does it perform strongly? And is it reliable? Well, based on everything we’ve seen here, Thermaltake can put three huge ticks next to the Toughpower GF1.

It does everything it says it will on the box and even (consistently) goes well beyond those remits. The Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 is the very definition of the ‘strong, silent type’ and with a huge 10-year guarantee it’s not only made to last, but it looks like it too!
