At the time of writing, the Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 ARGB (750w) has a price of around £135. This does appear to be slightly less in the US with prices of around $109.99 via the official website.
Now, on the surface, for a gold-rated efficiency power supply, one at 750w, this might seem a little on the high side. Remember, however, that this has some highly sophisticated (and damn good looking) RGB lighting effects that more than warrants this being towards to the top-end of the scale.
Despite being rated to gold-efficiency, our testing proves that this power supply performed on a remit well exceeding that requirement. Out of all of our tests, everything was great and far better than you might usually expect for this price point.
With the zero-fan mode as well, most the time this power supply can happily run without making the slightest noise. In terms of performance, it puts a huge tick in all of the right boxes!
The Thermaltake Toughpower branding is one that can work really well whether your specific model has ARGB lighting or not. As a power supply, this is solid, professional, well designed and is (for all intents and purposes) absolutely faultless.
The extra bells and whistles offered by the RGB light, however, particularly the option to sync this to your motherboard, take it to a whole new level of functionality well beyond the usual remit seen in a power supply.
That isn’t to say, however, that this power supply is perfect. As noted in our review, the length of the cabling is rather short and, as such, might provide you with some management headaches. Don’t get us wrong, it’s not too short, but it’s right on the limit to just make it that bit more awkward than you might have liked.
Despite the RGB lighting looking amazing on this power supply (and trust us, it does) we’re still not entirely convinced if there really is genuinely a market for these features within a power supply design. If there is, however, then Thermaltake is one of the few brands that has chosen to offer this functionality and they must be credited for that.
While the RGB lighting is the main stand-out feature of this power supply, it shouldn’t overshadow just what an excellent brand Thermaltake is developing with their ‘Toughpower’ series. This GF1 ARGB is, quite frankly, yet another entry to that range that stands shoulder to shoulder with the best they have produced to date!
