How Much Does It Cost?

With a retail price in the region of £85.99, the Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 ARGB 650w power supply finds itself roughly in the middle of the money pack in terms of its wattage level and efficiency rating.

You do, therefore, have to take into consideration some of its other factors. Putting the performance to one side (which we’ll get onto shortly) the biggest consideration to be made in favor of this design is the fact that it comes with a huge 10-year warranty. That’s practically double what the vast majority of its competition offers and, in conjunction with the ARGB light show on offer here, the Toughpower GF1 represents some excellent value for money.

Performance

As you can see from our test results, this power supply is (basically) absolutely faultless. It does everything that it promises to do on the box and a whole lot more.

One of the most stand-out results, however, has to be the efficiency test. Achieving a near Platinum efficiency rating (for what is only (on the box) marketed as gold) is truly excellent.

I mean, getting back to the price point, if this was Platinum, you could easily expect to see another £30-£50 added to that price tag and this power supply comes ever so close to achieving it. With the nice and bright ARGB lighting as well, this PSU really provides you with the total package!

Practicality & Functionality

With you able to control and sync the ARGB lighting (either manually or with your system), this power supply already offers a feature that many others don’t. Admittedly, RGB lighting in a power supply is something of a novel concept, but even so, it would surely only add to the overall aesthetic if that’s what you were going for in your build.

If it isn’t, then fret not. You still have an amazing power supply on your hands and you can, if you wish, turn the lights off completely. Although why you’d want to do that is beyond me!

When you consider, however, that the fan barely deems it necessary to run the fan at all when in ‘smart zero’ mode, it clearly speaks of a fantastic design. And, we should add, even when the fan does operate, it’s whisper quiet!

Should I Buy One?

Over the last 5 years, Thermaltake has really started to take power supply design to a whole new level of standard. Not, incidentally, for themselves, but for the market as a whole.

In terms of if you should buy A Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 ARGB, well, all I can say is that if I needed a power supply, this model (or at the very least, the ‘Toughpower’ brand, would be pretty much at the top of my list.

The Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 ARGB performs better than its already pretty lofty ‘box’ specification and provides some amazing visual aesthetics while doing it. Put simply, when compared to the alternatives, there’s more than a little that really tips the scales in favor of Thermaltake.
