Thermaltake Toughpower SFX 550W Power Supply Review

There will undoubtedly always be a high demand for PC components specifically designed for small form factor systems. Put simply, there aren’t that many around, comparatively speaking, and with such a limited market, it can sometimes be more than a little tricky to find the right parts to meet the requirements of your intended build. With the release of the Thermaltake Toughpower SFX series, however, if you are in need of a small but exceptionally potent PSU, then this might be perfect for you.

Thermaltake Toughpower SFX 550W

Available in output ranges from 450W-650W, for this specific review, we’ll be checking out the piggy in the middle with the Thermaltake Toughpower SFX 550W design. Packing plenty of exceptionally decent features into a surprisingly small and sleek package, this does, without a doubt (and at least on paper), represent one of the best small form factor power supply designs currently available on the market. – Before we take a closer look, though, let’s check out some of the impressive features and specifications on offer with this package!

What Does Thermaltake Have to Say?

“The Toughpower SFX 550W Gold is an upgraded version of our previous SFX form factor PSUs, targeting users who are using Mini ITX cases or other compact cases. The dimensions of the PSU are 100mm (D) x 125mm (W) x 63.5mm (H) as standard profile. Moreover, it is constructed with premium components and advanced technology which makes this PSU a reliable and stable power supply unit. With an ample 7-year warranty, the Toughpower SFX 550W Gold can satisfy the market where PC enthusiasts are looking for a premium power supply with all the latest features.”

Connections

Coming as a fully modular design, this means that you only need to install the cables that your build requires. And fewer cables means less clutter, better airflow and, overall, better management. Given that this is an SFX design, you clearly don’t get as many options as you might see from within a larger ‘standard’ design. That being said, however, for small form factor systems, this should still provide you with plenty to ensure you can easily hook up all of your components!
