Thermaltake ToughPower TF1 1550W Power Supply Review

Over Power Protection and Max Wattage
Coming with a 1550 watt rated output, the prospect of putting the Thermaltake Toughpower TF1 through an OPP test was, I’ll freely admit, more than a little terrifying. Why? Well, for those of you unaware, this test is designed to push a PSU to its absolute wattage limit. And through that, ensure that protections successfully come into place to shut the power supply down before there is any risk of damage (to it or your components).
Well, in that regard, we have something of a mixed bag of results that again is very little to do with the power supply itself. Achieving 1832 in our OPP test, our experience clearly told us that while this was an obscenely high number by usual standards, the Thermaltake Toughpower TF1 should’ve been capable of more. Given that we would expect this PSU to achieve something around 2000-2100, we, therefore, have to suspect that 1832 was literally as high as our tester could go. – The bottom line though is that the OPP works entirely correctly, and despite our already exceptionally positive result, we would easily suggest that this is capable of going significantly beyond this point! Not, of course, that you should ever push a PSU harder than its rated level.
