Fan Speed

We found that the Thermaltake Toughpower TF1 largely remained at a fairly static 400 RPM throughout all of our fan speed testing. So, in terms of noise levels, this is an exceptionally quiet power supply. For those who are looking to push this pretty hard, however, this is where the ‘boost’ function comes into play. With this turned on (through the use of a simple press button on the back of the PSU), this automatically sets the cooling fan to run at its maximum speed.

Now, given that this is a 140mm design, and its top speed is 2,400 RPM, while certainly effective at moving the air, there is a huge trade-off in acoustic output. Put simply, in this mode, it’s akin to having a hairdryer running in the background or having a neighbour who’s mowing their lawn. For those who will be looking to push their components hard with overclocking, however, and the proxy of this requiring a lot more juice, while certainly not quiet, this mode will undoubtedly represent a great feature to ensure your PSU is handling things temperature-wise!
