Thermaltake ToughPower XT 775W Power Supply Review

A Closer Look

A first look at the ToughPower XT 775watt power supply is that it comes encased in an unusual brown/gold coloured steel case and is of normal size to fit in most present cases. As normal with modular power supplies, there are a few hard wired cables for the main motherboard connectors.

The standard label explaining the ins and outs of the unit is clearly placed on the top of the unit.

Taking a closer look at the label gives us an extensive look at the main specifications including model name and number (Toughpower XT 775W), including fan size (14cm), industry standards (ATX 12V 2.3 & EPS 12V 2.91), warranty (5 year) and efficiency rating (80 Plus Bronze) as well as the usual DC output figures that we expect on a power supply.

The fan grille is something different to the norm with a punched out style as opposed to the standard mesh typed grille.

The side of the power supply lists the full model name and wattage again on a sticker that takes up most of the side.

A nice move from Thermaltake is that it has 3 status LED’s to show when the unit is on standby, powered on or when the unit has turned off due to overheating. If you have a case with a window, you will most likely be able see these LED’s or if like us, you don’t believe in cases, then you’ll definitely be able to see them.

The back of the unit has a typical b shaped honeycomb design that we’ve seen on many various power supplies in the past. Once again, there is no getting away from the model name, with yet another sticker above the power switch and connector for a kettle lead.

As this power supply is a modular unit, we see 4 ports for Molex/SATA/FDD connectors which are determined by black ports. We also have another 4 for PCI-E connectors which are determined by red ports. This gives clear indication for even the most novice user’s and just below this is more Thermaltake branding, just encase you forget which brand of power supply you’ve bought.
