Test Setup
Without having very expensive testing equipment, it is very hard to fully test a power supply to it’s maximum ability but there are ways to test how stable the rails are by use of a multimeter. To test the rails, we use a digital multimeter to measure the voltage of the seperate rails including the 3.3v, 5v, 12v, and also any secondary, third and fourth 12v rails if the specific power supply has them.

We test these rails at idle and load wattages which are simulated by opening as many intense applications as possible including the likes of Prime95, FurMark etc…

Our test system consists of the following components:

Test System
Processor (CPU) Intel Core i7 870
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-H55N-USB3
Memory (RAM) 8GB Kingston DDR3 1800MHz
Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB
Primary Hard Drive Kingston V+ Series 64GB SSD x 2 (Raid 0)
Power Supply BFG EX Series 1200watt
Operating System Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
