Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB 16GB 4600MHz DDR4 Memory Review

A Closer Look

Thermaltake has really dialled in the design of their memory products recently. These may look exactly the same as the previous kit I reviewed, but that is no bad thing, as they both look stunning.

The key feature of their design is the chrome vertical bars, that cut into the top light bar to form the Thermaltake “TT” logo, and honestly, that’s really clever. It’s stylish and meaningful.

Honestly, I do think they should remove the Thermaltake name from the front here, there’s just a little bit too much branding. I don’t need Toughram and RGB on there either. I think just the TT logo on the top of the lightbar will do nicely.

That being said, once they’re installed, you really only see the top of the lightbar most of the time, so it’s not an issue.

The build quality on these is pretty awesome though, with a very heavy duty heatsink made from brushed aluminium. Each module weighs in at 79.8g, and Thermaltake say that 60.2g of that is the heatsink. There’s 1.8mm of aluminium on each side, so these are some stout DIMMS!

The PCB is matte black, not that I was expecting retro green PCBs of course. The hardware looks stunning through and it should blend into any PC build easily enough.

The light bars use 10 lights, which cover all three sections of the spine. They’re ultra-bright too, allowing for some truly staggering light effects. you can dim them down in the software too though if you want to. As I said before though, you can control them from most major RGB software suits, including Razer Chroma and even voice control through Amazon Alexa. I mean, that’s a niche thing, but hey it’s still cool.
